Orchard Forest School is delighted to have been awarded £10,000 by the National Lottery Celebrating The Platinum Jubilee Fund for their Orchard Forest School Platinum Jubilee Legacy Project whereby they will create “The Queen’s Sensory Garden” and plant an additional 7 apple trees in the orchard to provide a lasting legacy in honour of the Queen’s outstanding leadership of the nation over the past 7 decades. We intend this to be a legacy which will be enjoyed by and benefit existing and future generations of the local community. The Sensory Garden will provide a calm and peaceful space within the orchard not only for our existing activity groups but also open to all across the Torbay community who would benefit from the sensory experience.

Over the last couple of weeks children, adults, staff and volunteers have been planting some new locally sourced apple trees, to replace some of the old fallen ones, in honour of the The Queens Green canopy initiative for the Queens Jubilee.
We feel extremely blessed by everyone’s kind and generous donations which enabled us to purchase these local variety trees from our friends at ‘The Mother Tree’ in Dartington and everything we needed to ensure we give them the best start.
Not only did this enable everyone to be involved in the Queens Green Canopy project, it also provided lots of new learning opportunities from finding worms to learning valuable life skills in planting and lots of discussion points too!
Thank you to everyone who helped us make this happen, from the making and selling of cakes, money donations, material donations, transport, peoples time and all the prep that went into this.
What a legacy for all those who have contributed in any small way! Being part of this means the orchards will continue to flourish for generations to come.

At Orchard Forest School we have been fortunate enough to have been involved with the Kick Start government initiative by having young people working with us for a 6 month period.
This has been a great success where we’ve had the pleasure of supporting young people to build on their confidence, self esteem and learn new skills.
We are very excited to let you know that we have just supported our current Kick Start girls Ash and Ellie to enrol on to the level 2 Forest School course at South Devon College, along with one of our new volunteers Brooke.
All three girls will be able to complete their training alongside our Forest School Leads on site who will be teaching them a range of skills and by sharing their experiences.
We are super proud of all three girls who have shown us their love and commitment to supporting our local families within groups and also their passion to support our natural world and environment. 🌎
